Cyprusball is believed to be first inhabited by 4-icon humans around 10'000 BC & 2-icon 2balls started to settle into villages from 8200 BC.

Interestingly, remains of a kitten were discovered buried with a human body in Cyprus-icon Cyprusball, estimated to be over 9000 years old. This pushes back the earliest known cat-human association significantly. Plenty of Pusheen cat-icon cats still reside on Cyprus-icon Cyprusball today.

In the 13th & 14th centuries BC Ancient Greece-icon Mycenaean Greeks began settling the island. During this time Cyprus-icon Cyprusball started to evolve a Greek character.

Afterwards, it was ruled by Assyria-icon Assyriaball for a century from 708 BC, then a brief rule under Ancient Egypt-icon Ancient Egyptball and eventually Achaemenid-icon Persian rule in 545 BC.

The island was conquered by Macedon-icon Alexander the Great in 333 BC. After the division of his Empire, Cyprus-icon Cyprusball became part of Ptolemaic Egypt-icon Ptolemaic Egyptball. In 58 BC Cyprusball was acquired by the SPQR-icon Roman Republic.

In a string of events a Crusader-icon Crusader state of the Kingdom of Cyprus-icon Kingdom of Cyprusball was established & recognised by the HRE-icon Holy Roman Empireball.

Following the death of the last Kingdom of Cyprus-icon Cypriot King in 1473, the Venice-icon Republic of Veniceball assumed control of the island. Ottoman Rule

Ottoman-icon Ottomanball massacred many Hellenic State-icon Greek and Armenia-icon Armenianballs. A Islam-icon Muslim community began to form.

As soon as the Greek War of Independence broke out in 1821, several Greek Cypriots left for Greece to join the Greek forces. In response, the Ottoman-icon Ottoman governor of Cyprusball arrested and executed 500 Hellenic State-icon Greek Cypriots. After centuries of neglect by the Ottoman-icon Turks, the ruthless poverty of most of the balls & the taxes fuelled Hellenic State-icon Greek nationalism, and by the 20th century idea of enosis, alas union with newly independent Hellenic State-icon Hellenic Republicball was firmly rooted among Greek Cypriots.

British Rule

Timeline of Cyprus (Scenario 2)

In the aftermath of the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), Cyprus-icon Cyprusball was leased to the British Empire-icon British Empire which de facto took over its administration in 1878 (although Cyprusball remained an Ottoman territory until 1914) in exchange for guarantees that UK-icon UKball would use the island to protect the Ottoman-icon Ottoman Empireball against possible Russian-Empire-icon Russian aggression.

Many Greek and Turkish Cypriots fought in the British Army during both world wars.

The Hellenic State-icon Greek Cypriot population, meanwhile, had become hopeful that the UK-icon British administration would lead to enosis. The Northern Cyprus-icon Turkish Cypriots were sceptical of the situation which escalated in the 1950s into protests for the partition of the island but it was later eased off. In January 1950, the Cyprus-icon Church of Cyprusball organised a referendum (with no Turkey-icon Turkish participation), where 96% of the participating Hellenic State-icon Greeks voted in favour of enosis.

Independence

British Cyprus-icon British Cyprusball ended its existence on 16 August 1960 when the Cyprus-icon The Republic of Cyprusball was established. (Except for Akrotiri and Dhekelia-icon Akrotiri and Dhekeliaball)

The Hellenic State-icon Greek Cypriots still believed that enosis was their final goal.

On 15 July 1974, the Greece-icon Greek military junta carried out a coup d'état in Cyprus-icon Cyprus, to unite the island with Greece-icon Greeceball. Post-partition

After the restoration of order in December 1974, Turkey-icon Turkish troops remained, occupying the northeastern portion of the island. In 1983, the Northern Cyprus-icon Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprusball was proclaimed, which is recognised only by Turkey-icon Turkeyball. Around 150,000 settlers from Turkey-icon Turkeyball are believed to be living in the north.

Cyprus is landloss

Efforts have been made to enhance freedom of movement between the two sides. Northern Cyprus-icon North and Cyprus-icon South relaunched reunification talks on 15 May 2015, however, they are presently in a bit of stagnation. And only time knows what is awaiting the island in the future.
